How Do You Pick the Right Roomba Replacement Battery?

A Roomba battery is matched by the model sticker under the robot and by the connector on the pack. Three checks cover every iRobot machine on this page.

01

Read the sticker under the robot

Flip the Roomba and read the model code on the base: e5, i3, i7, j7, j9+, s9, 694, 960. That code, with the battery type printed on the old pack, decides the replacement. The ABL code family identifies the pack: ABL-D1, ABL-D2, ABL-F, ABL-B and ABL-C each map to specific model groups.

No sticker? Send us a photo of the old pack and we match it before you pay.

02

Know the ABL-D1 and ABL-D2 connector trap

The two plugs look identical and physically never interchange. ABL-D1 fits vacuum-only models like the e5, i3, i7 and j7. ABL-D2 fits the Combo models that mop, the j5+, j7+, j8+ and j9+. Packs sold under the ABL-F name use the D2 plug, so an ABL-F never fits a vacuum-only Roomba. This trap is the number one wrong-order cause we see.

If the robot mops, it is a Combo: order the D2 side.

03

Match chemistry before capacity

Older 500 to 900 series robots run NiMH packs, and the Xlife 4400mAh high-capacity upgrade doubles cleaning cycles on the same platform. Newer i, j and s series use lithium packs where voltage and connector rule everything, and the newest machines expect LFP chemistry that never swaps with NiMH. Match the type first, then take the highest capacity available for it.

iRobot's own runtime floor: 75 minutes on 900, i, j, s and m series, 90 minutes on 400 to 800 series.

🤖

Combo owner? Check the connector before you order.

ABL-D1 and ABL-D2 plugs look the same but never interchange. D1 fits vacuum-only models: e5, e6, i1 to i8, j5, j6, j7. D2 fits Combo mop models: j5+, j7+, j8+, j9+, Combo 10 Max. ABL-F packs use the D2 plug. Flip the robot, read the model sticker underneath, or send it to us and we confirm the fit.

Genuine Packs, Bench-Tested Before Dispatch

Runtime you can measure against

iRobot's own support standard says a healthy robot runs at least 75 minutes per charge on the 900, i, j, s and m series, and at least 90 minutes on the 400 to 800 series. A pack that falls well under those floors is done. Our listings state the real specs: 14.4V 36Wh for the ABL-D1, 48Wh for the s9's ABL-B, 4400mAh for the Xlife upgrade.

What we check before dispatch

Every Roomba battery runs a charge-discharge cycle and a capacity measurement on the bench before shipment, and the connector type is verified against the fit list. The D1 and D2 plugs look identical, so the check happens here instead of in your living room.

Roomba Replacement Battery FAQ

A Roomba i7 uses the ABL-D1 battery, 14.4V 36Wh, $49.99 on this page, and the same pack covers the i3, i4, i5, i8, e5, e6, j5, j6 and j7 vacuum models. If your machine is an i7+ that mops, check the D2 connector before ordering. View the ABL-D1 battery.
No, an ABL-D2 battery will not fit a Roomba i7 or e5, because the D1 and D2 plugs look identical but physically never interchange. The i7 and e5 are vacuum-only machines on the D1 plug. The D2 plug belongs to the Combo mop models: j5+, j7+, j8+, j9+ and Combo 10 Max. Packs sold as ABL-F also use the D2 plug.
A Roomba j9+ uses the official iRobot ABL-F battery, $69.99 on this page, which the listing also covers for the j8+, j7+, j6+, i8+ and i7+. The ABL-F uses the D2 plug, so it never fits a vacuum-only Roomba. View the ABL-F battery.
A Roomba 650 or 680 takes the 500-to-900-series NiMH pack, available here as the original iRobot part 4376392 at $49.99 or the Xlife 4400mAh high-capacity upgrade at $59.99 that doubles cleaning cycles. Both fit the whole 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900 series plus the Scooba 450.
A healthy Roomba i7 runs at least 75 minutes on one charge and a healthy 960 at least 90 minutes, per iRobot's own runtime floors for the 900, i, j, s and m series against the 400 to 800 series. A battery lasts about 2 to 3 years before those numbers slide. When your robot cleans for noticeably less than its floor, the pack is due.
A Roomba j7 stops holding its charge because of dirty charging contacts on the robot or dock, an aged pack, or a charging fault the iRobot Home app reports. Clean both sets of contacts first: dust there is the number one fake battery failure. On the 500 and 600 series cousins, a solid red or pulsing amber light flags the same problem. If runtime stays short after a full reset, the pack is done.
To reset a Roomba 650 battery, hold Spot and Dock together for 10 seconds while the robot charges; to reset an i7, hold Home, Spot Clean and Clean until the light ring spins. On the 700, 800 and 900 series, hold Clean for 10 seconds. A general reboot works on every model: with the robot off the dock, hold Clean or Power about 20 seconds.
Yes, the Xlife 4400mAh pack at $59.99 is the standard bigger battery for a Roomba 650, 680 and the whole 500 to 900 series, rated for roughly twice the cleaning cycles of the standard pack. Match chemistry and voltage to what your model expects, because the newest robots expect LFP packs that never swap with NiMH. On i, j and s series machines, stay with the specified ABL type.
The Braava Jet M6 mop uses the ABL-C battery, a 10.8V 19Wh lithium-ion pack at $69.99 that fits the M611020, M612880, M612680 and M614480 models. It is a different family from every Roomba vacuum pack. View the ABL-C battery.
A plain Roomba j7 is a D1 model, and the j7+ Combo that mops is a D2 model: the mop tank is the dividing line across the whole line. Vacuum-only machines like the e5, e6, i1 to i8, j5, j6 and j7 take the D1 plug. The Combo machines j5+, j7+, j8+, j9+ and Combo 10 Max take the D2 plug. Flip the robot and read the sticker; if it is gone, send us the old pack photo.
