What Is an HP Replacement Battery and How Do You Pick the Right One?

An HP replacement battery is the internal or removable pack that powers your laptop unplugged. Picking the correct one comes down to three checks, and they take two minutes.

01

Read the part number first

HP prints the battery code on the pack itself: HT03XL, RH03XL, SS03XL, or a numeric spare like 933321-855. That code, not the laptop name, decides the replacement. HP reuses names like Pavilion 15 across dozens of configurations with different batteries inside.

The full model check method is in our guide: Before You Order: HP Battery Model Number Check.

02

Match voltage and watt-hours

Voltage must match exactly: the 11.4V HT03XL and the 11.58V WP03XL look similar and never interchange. Watt-hours describe capacity, so 41Wh against 83Wh is runtime, not compatibility. The HT03XL even ships in two variants, 41.04Wh and 41.9Wh, both valid for the same machines.

A wrong voltage pack can refuse to charge or damage the charging circuit.

03

Genuine cells and the protection circuit

Every battery on this page is genuine HP or certified OEM stock. The protection circuit that regulates charge and discharge lives on the pack itself. Clone packs skip that circuit, and HP laptops may reject an unrecognized battery ID outright.

All six families carry the same 1-year replacement warranty.

Genuine HP Stock, Capacity-Tested Before It Ships

What genuine means on this page

Six of the six batteries listed here are genuine HP or certified OEM stock, with original spare numbers like 933321-855 and M73466-005. HP laptops verify the battery ID at boot, and clone packs with copied IDs often get rejected or locked out. Genuine packs carry the ID, the protection circuit, and the cell grade the laptop expects.

What we check before dispatch

Each pack runs a charge-discharge cycle and a capacity measurement before shipment, the same bench procedure we use across the store. Runtime claims on this page come from the listings: up to 10 hours of web browsing for the RH03XL, 4 to 8 hours of light use for the 83Wh Omen pack.

Battery Finder and Part Number Decoder

Two quick tools. The finder works from your laptop line, the decoder from the code on your old pack.

HP Replacement Battery FAQ

The HP Pavilion 15 uses the HT03XL battery in the 15-cs, 15-cu, 15-cw, 15-da, 15-db and 15-dw families, $42.99 on this page. The exact variant depends on your model number, the sticker on the bottom reads something like 15-cs3013cl. The HT03XL ships in two valid capacities, 41.04Wh and 41.9Wh, and both fit the same machines. View the HT03XL battery.
The HP EliteBook 840 G5 and G6 use the SS03XL, official HP spare number 933321-855, $58.99 on this page. The same pack also covers the EliteBook 730, 735 and 740 G5. View the SS03XL battery.
Match the part number printed on the original pack, not the laptop's model name. HP packs carry codes like HT03XL, RH03XL, SS03XL, or numeric spares like 933321-855. For internal packs, run msinfo32 on Windows for the exact system model, or send it to us. The full method is in Before You Order: HP Battery Model Number Check.
Open HP Support Assistant and run its battery check, which reports the pack's condition directly. On any Windows laptop you can also run powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt and compare Full Charge Capacity with Design Capacity. Above 80% is healthy, 60 to 80% shows wear, below 60% is replace territory.
The most common fix is reinstalling the battery driver. Open Device Manager, expand Batteries, uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, then restart the laptop. If that fails, do HP's hard reset: shut down, unplug everything, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect and boot. Also check the charger and cable for damage, and run the battery check in HP Support Assistant. If capacity measures under 60% of design, the pack itself is done.
HP error 601 at startup means the primary internal battery holds under 25% of its original capacity. The gauge can misread on a worn pack, so calibrate first before buying anything. If the clock also resets or BIOS settings drop, the culprit is the small CMOS coin cell instead, a different and cheaper part. Genuine capacity below 25% means the swap is due.
Charge to 100%, leave the laptop plugged in about two more hours, run it on battery until it shuts off, then recharge to full without interruption. HP also builds a battery test into its hardware diagnostics: press F2 repeatedly at startup to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. Calibration fixes the fuel gauge, not worn cells. If runtime stays short after a full cycle, the pack needs replacing.
Genuine packs on this page run $42.99 to $79.99 depending on family and capacity. Service centers add labor on top, and manufacturer repair quotes often exceed the laptop's resale value. The full cost logic is in HP battery replacement cost: a quick sanity check.
They are three Pavilion-family part numbers that look almost identical and fit different machines. The HT03XL is the one stocked on this page, $42.99 in both valid capacity variants. The full spec-by-spec comparison is in HT03XL vs. HW03XL vs. LK03XL on the blog.
Only within the part number your model supports. Voltage must match exactly: the 11.4V HT03XL and the 11.58V WP03XL never interchange. Where HP offered variants, like the HT03XL in 41.04Wh and 41.9Wh, both are valid for the same machines and the higher number simply runs longer.
