Samsung Galaxy Series Overview

Section 02 · Series Guide

Samsung organises its Galaxy lineup into distinct series, each targeting a different market segment. Click any series below to filter the battery table.

The Galaxy S series runs from the original Galaxy S (2010, 1500mAh) through to the S25 Ultra (2025, 5000mAh). The Galaxy A series is the global mid-range workhorse — the A50 and A51 alone account for tens of millions of devices. The Note series pioneered large-display phablets before its DNA merged into the S Ultra line after the Note 20 Ultra. The Galaxy M series holds Samsung's highest raw capacity records — the M41 and M51 both carry 7000mAh cells, targeting markets where reliable daily charging isn't always possible. And the Z Fold / Z Flip foldable line uses dual-cell configurations — one cell per screen panel — which is why every Z Fold model shows two separate battery listings.

Decoding Samsung Battery Part Numbers

Section 03 · Part Number Guide

Samsung uses a consistent naming convention. Once you understand the pattern, identifying batteries and spotting fakes becomes much easier.

EB-External BatteryPrefix for all modern Samsung batteries
BGGalaxy (General)EB-BG950ABE = Galaxy S8
BNNote SeriesEB-BN985ABY = Note 20 Ultra
BAA SeriesEB-BA505ABU = Galaxy A50
BSS Series (Recent)EB-BS922ABY = Galaxy S22
BMM Series / LargeEB-BM415ABY = Galaxy M41 (7000mAh)
BJJ SeriesEB-BJ710CBC = Galaxy J7 2016
BFFoldable (Z Series)EB-BF947ABY = Z Fold 5 main cell
BT / BXTab (Tablet)EB-BX916ABY = Tab S9 Ultra

The suffix letters carry regional variant information: ABE (Europe), ABU (USA), ABY (newer standard), ABA (Americas). For replacement purposes these suffixes are interchangeable — a European EB-BG950ABE functions identically in a US-market Galaxy S8.

💡

Finding your part number: For removable batteries, check the sticker on the cell itself after removing the back cover. For sealed phones, dial *#0228# in the phone app to access the battery service menu, or check Settings → Device Care → Battery for model information on newer One UI versions.

How Samsung Battery Capacity Has Evolved

Section 04 · Historical Context

Galaxy S Flagship: 1500mAh → 5000mAh

The original Galaxy S (2010) launched with a 1500mAh removable battery. The Galaxy S25 Ultra contains a 5000mAh sealed cell — a 3.3× increase achieved while the device became thinner, thanks to energy density improvements in lithium-ion chemistry and more efficient SoC architectures reducing idle power draw.

Galaxy M and A: The 6000–7000mAh Champions

Counter-intuitively, Samsung's highest raw capacities aren't in the flagship S line. The Galaxy M41 (EB-BM415ABY) holds 7000mAh, targeting Southeast Asian and South Asian markets where all-day unplugged usage is the norm rather than the exception. The M30S, M31, and M21 all share the EB-BM207ABY 6000mAh pack — making them strong candidates if raw battery endurance is your top priority.

Galaxy Tab: 21200mAh Extremes

The Tab S9 Ultra (EB-BX916ABY) and Tab S8 Ultra (EB-BX906AB) both contain 21200mAh cells — the largest in Samsung's current lineup. These multi-cell tablet configurations weigh approximately 120g for the battery assembly alone, and their replacement requires full disassembly of the tablet chassis.

Z Fold / Z Flip: The Dual-Cell Approach

Foldable devices split their battery capacity across two cells to accommodate the hinge mechanism. The Z Fold 6 uses EB-BF956ABY (1975mAh cover) + EB-BF957ABY (2355mAh main body) for a combined 4330mAh. When replacing a foldable battery, both cells should be replaced together to ensure balanced charge management.

⚠️

Z Fold replacement note: Foldable battery replacement requires precise flex cable routing through the hinge mechanism. Professional repair is strongly recommended for Z Fold 3 and newer models due to the risk of damaging the ultra-thin glass display during disassembly.

How to Verify Battery Authenticity

Section 05 · Buying Guide

The Samsung battery market has a significant counterfeit problem, especially for popular models like the Galaxy A50 (EB-BA505ABU) and Galaxy S9 (EB-BG960ABE). Here is how to verify quality before and after purchase.

🔢

Verify the exact part number format

Genuine Samsung batteries follow EB-BX000XXX exactly. Counterfeits often show slight variations — wrong prefix, missing hyphens, or altered suffix. Cross-reference with our table above before purchasing.

⚖️

Weight vs capacity check

A 4000mAh lithium-ion cell weighs roughly 60–70g. If a "4000mAh" replacement feels under 50g on a kitchen scale, its actual capacity is almost certainly lower than advertised.

🌡️

Monitor first-charge temperature

Genuine Samsung batteries with functional BMS circuitry stay below 40°C during normal charging. Excessive heat in the first few cycles is a warning sign — stop using immediately.

📱

Use Samsung Members app diagnostics

On Galaxy phones, Samsung Members → Diagnostics → Battery Status reports rated vs actual capacity. A genuine 4000mAh battery should show 3850–4050mAh design capacity at full health.

🏷️

Inspect label and hologram

Original Samsung labels use crisp, even printing. The holographic security sticker (present on most models post-2018) should shift colour clearly under light. Blurry print or a static hologram is a red flag.

💬

Ask about cell brand

Reputable suppliers can specify which cell brand is used (Samsung SDI, LG Chem, CATL, Panasonic, EVE). Inability to answer this question is itself a warning sign about quality controls.

🚨

Avoid these sources: Unverified sellers with no reviews, listings with suspiciously round capacity numbers, bundles of 5+ batteries at a per-unit price, or any seller unable to provide warranty documentation. Samsung batteries are safety-critical — counterfeit lithium cells have caused device fires. Never compromise on sourcing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Section 06 · FAQ
Can I use a higher-capacity battery than my original Samsung?
In most cases, no — not safely. Samsung's BMS firmware is calibrated for the specific cell capacity in your device. Installing a physically larger cell requires modifying the battery compartment, and a different voltage profile can confuse the charge IC, causing unsafe charging conditions. The only safe path is replacing with the same rated capacity as the original.
What is the difference between EB-BA505ABU and EB-BA505ABN for the Galaxy A50?
The suffix letters (U, N, E, Y, etc.) indicate regional market variants. For the A50, both EB-BA505ABU and EB-BA505ABN are functionally identical: same 4000mAh capacity, same 3.85V nominal voltage, same connector. You can safely use either suffix variant in any region's Galaxy A50 without compatibility issues.
How many charge cycles should I expect from a Samsung Galaxy battery?
Samsung's official specification is 500 charge cycles to 80% of original capacity. In real-world use with mixed partial charging and typical heat exposure, most users see 300–450 effective cycles — roughly 18–30 months before noticeable runtime reduction. Heat is the primary degradation driver: a phone consistently above 40°C during charging will degrade significantly faster than the spec suggests.
Are older removable Samsung batteries (J, early A, S5, Note 4) still available?
Yes — the aftermarket for older removable Samsung batteries is well-stocked even when Samsung itself discontinues them. The Galaxy S5 (EB-BG900BBC), Note 4 (EB-BN910BBE), and J7 2016 (EB-BJ710CBC) all remain widely available due to their large installed base. Our catalogue covers models going back to the Galaxy S1 (EB575152VU, 2010).
My Samsung tablet battery is visibly swollen — is it safe to keep using?
No. A swelling lithium-ion battery is producing internal gases due to electrolyte breakdown — this is a fire and puncture risk. Stop charging the device immediately. Do not apply pressure to the swollen area. Tablet batteries are more visibly prone to this because the large flat cell shows through any gap in the back panel. Replace it promptly through a qualified repair shop or using our compatible replacement.
After replacing my Galaxy battery, it shows "Unknown battery" — what does this mean?
This warning appears on some Galaxy models when the battery's BMS chip doesn't communicate correctly via the SMBus protocol — common with low-quality replacements that omit proper firmware programming. The phone will typically still charge and function, but battery health reporting will be inaccurate. A properly manufactured replacement with correct SMBus firmware should not trigger this warning. If it persists, reseat the battery connector first, as a loose connection can also cause this error.
